Staying Healthy!
Please keep in mind that frequent hand washing reduces the spreading of germs.  Also, please remember if your child is ill, he or she must stay home until her or she is well again.  If you are unsure about when to send your child to school, please see the guidelines for illness in the preschool handbook.

How Much Sleep Do Children Need?
Have you ever had concerns about your child’s behavior?  Have you ever considered if he or she might be getting enough sleep?  Some basic sleep guidelines can be found on this website: www.webmd.com/parenting/guide/sleep-children.

Is Your Child Eating Breakfast?
It is important to have your child eat breakfast before arriving at school. When children are hungry, they may have a difficult time concentrating and following the routine. Food is fuel for your child!

 August/September News

First Day Success!
The first day of school is Wednesday, September 3rd.  We want your child’s first day of preschool to be successful!  Here are some tips for the first day:

*Arrive on time!  The classroom doors will open 5 minutes before class starts.  Arriving too early or too late may cause some anxiety.

*Act confident!  If you seem anxious or unsure, your child might model your feelings.  Let him or her know that preschool will be a good experience.

* Say Good Bye and Leave!  Give your child a good bye hug and kiss, wish him or her a great day and then leave.  Usually the more a parent stays in the classroom, the more reluctant a child is to start interacting in the classroom.  We will embrace your child and ease him or her into the classroom.  If your child has significant difficulties once you leave, we will contact you.

Dismissal Time
*Arrive on time for dismissal!
* Please do not come to the classroom to pick upyour child!  Coming to the classroom causes confusion and congestion in the hallway.  The teachers will walk the classes to the dismissal areas. We need to make sure everyone is properly picked up and signed out by an authorized person!  Please use the yellow cards in this envelope for the first few weeks of school.

Labels for Education
Shining Lights Preschool collects Labels for Education and in return we will receive items for the students to use at our school.  Please save your labels and place them in the gold box by my office.  Please include the UPC code with the label.  Also, if you have a Kroger or Jewel-Osco card, you can register your card online by going to this website: www.elabelsaddup.com and select Shining Lights Preschool as the school you would like to assist.  Every time you purchase a qualifying item we will earn points.  After using the product, simply cut off the label and return it to the collection container at school.  This helps us earn additional points.
